Lucky number Week 7! If you followed along last week, there is a good chance you were able to work yourself into some solid lineups in CFL Fantasy and hopefully some cash. We’ll run it back with the same format, as usual, this week and try to capitalize on players whose prices are still too cheap. Let’s roll.

QUARTERBACK

Mcleod Bethel-Thompson

DraftKings = $8,900/$50,000
TSN = $5,670/$40,000

Toronto doesn’t have much to be proud of this season, but they have finally been able to enjoy a bit more consistent quarterback play from back up QB Mcleod Bethel-Thompson. Since taking over for the injured James Franklin in week three, Bethel-Thompson has yet to post an outing below 20 fantasy points.

The fact that the Argonauts usually find themselves playing from behind provides Bethel-Thompson with a really solid floor in terms of passing attempts. In his three, 20-plus point efforts he has also eclipsed the 300-yard mark each time putting him safely in bonus territory. Bethel-Thompson also looks to have established a go-to receiver in Derel Walker in what had previously been a spread out target distribution. I have no problems rolling with Toronto’s QB-one this week.

Cody Fajardo

DraftKings = $9,000/$50,000
TSN = $6,815/$40,000

A guy I always love each and every week in CFL Fantasy football is Cody Fajardo. His price rarely ever increases even though he is regularly among the top producers at quarterback. Part of my love is due to his rushing upside. Fajardo has a rushing touchdown in each of the last five games which is just so valuable at the quarterback position. He will get another crack at a weak Lions defence that he was able to get the better of last week.

RUNNINGBACK

Maleek Irons

DraftKings = $3,900/$50,000
TSN = $4,000/$40,000

Irons is a part of a slew of solid value at running back on this slate. In Hamilton’s previous game before their bye week, Irons paced the Tiger-Cats backfield with 14 rushes for 61 yards and three catches for 20 yards. It was interesting that Irons headed the attack at running back given that Anthony Coombs had produced solid numbers in relief of Sean Thomas-Erlington in Week 4 when he went down. I would say Irons is a lock button play, but there is another name we must also consider as a value running back.

Shaq Cooper

DraftKings = $4,200/$50,000
TSN = $4,500$40,000

Shaq Cooper is listed as the starting running back for the Edmonton Eskimos for Thursday’s tilt against the Argonauts. C.J. Gable will be absent giving Cooper the opportunity to lead the Eskimos’ backfield. Of course, we haven’t really seen at all what Cooper is capable of, but a lead back at this price on this Eskimos offence is worthy of consideration.

Other Notes

The Argos have declared James Wilder Jr. as out for Thursday night’s game. Wilder Jr. has been heavily involved in the passing game for the Argonauts as Bethel-Thompson likes to target his running back quite a bit. Brandon Burks is listed as the starter Thursday, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Chris Rainey was involved as well.

WIDE RECEIVER

Derel Walker

DraftKings = $8.700/$50,000
TSN = $7,827/$40,000

Derel Walker looks to have finally cemented himself as the Argonauts’ primary receiver over the past two weeks. He has registered a massive 23 targets over the past two contests. Also to be taken with a grain of salt is Walker facing up against his former team. The revenge narrative is certainly alive and well here, and with Walker’s recent uptick in volume, I like his chances of a spiked week.

Other Notes

In addition to C.J. Gable, Davaris Daniels will also be out this week for the Edmonton Eskimos. This compresses the targets for the Eskimos and brings us right back to the weeks where guys like Ricky Collins Jr. and Kenny Stafford had large roles in the offence. It goes without saying that you should also pay attention to the Eskimos’ primary receiving option, Greg Ellingson. Ellingson has not had one game below seven targets this season and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him eclipse double digits this week.

DEFENCE

Saskatchewan Roughriders

DraftKings = $4,800/$50,000
TSN = $4,367/$40,000

Even with the good value on this slate, I am not sure I will be spending my extra dollars on defence. While the Roughriders are the third-highest priced team on TSN, they are the fifth-highest priced option on DraftKings. To me, they are an easy choice for DraftKings and are definitely in consideration on TSN.

That’s going to do it for Week 7’s edition of CFL Fantasy. Hopefully, we can have as a good a week as we did last time around!
